About Acknosoft
Acknosoft is an index of Android applications. We currently track 4,800 apps and games across 24 categories, with a page for each one covering what it does, what it costs once you are inside, and how it compares with the rest of its category.
Where the data comes from
Application metadata — version, size, developer, content rating, ratings and install counts — is collected from public Google Play listings and refreshed daily. Each page shows the update date the developer published, so you can see how current a listing is rather than guessing.
Icons and screenshots are stored on our own infrastructure rather than linked from elsewhere, so pages keep working when a source changes.
How the descriptions are written
We do not republish store listing copy. Descriptions are either written by hand — 45 of them so far — or composed from the facts we hold: category position, rating relative to the category median, install rank, update history and monetisation.
That second kind is worth being plain about. It is assembled from data rather than written by a person, and it says only what the data supports. Where we have not used an app ourselves, we would rather publish a shorter factual page than invent detail about software we do not know.
The comparisons — how an app's rating sits against the median for its category, where it ranks by installs — come from our own index. You will not find them on the store listing, and they are the main reason to read a page here rather than there.
What we do not do
- We do not host application files. Download links point to Google Play or the developer's own distribution.
- We do not modify applications. No repacks, no patched builds, no unlocked versions.
- We do not accept payment for placement. Rankings are computed from ratings and install counts.
Ranking, briefly
Where we show a "highest rated" list, the ordering is weighted rather than a raw average. An app with five reviews averaging 5.0 does not outrank one with two hundred thousand reviews averaging 4.7 — the fewer the ratings, the more the score is pulled toward the site-wide average. It is a small thing, but it is the difference between a useful list and one full of apps nobody has used.
Who runs it
Acknosoft is run by a small team rather than a company with a support department. That is worth knowing before you write: replies come from a person, and usually within a few business days rather than the same hour.
